What is the GAA ?
In Quebec, under the Automobile Insurance Act passed in 1978, the motor vehicle insurance plan made a clear distinction between compensation for personal injuries and compensation for property damage.
To this end, the governement created the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the state-owned corporation that pays compensation to victims of bodily injury. It also set up the Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA), in order to entrust it with certain mandates relating to compensation for property damage.
What is an appraisal center ?
Under the Automobile Insurance Act, the GAA has also established a network of estimation centers subject to its standards, procedures and control measures. The objective is to maintain premiums at a reasonable level and to control the cost of indemnities by means of accurate estimates.
