•
Re-inspection for compliance, regarding emissions opaqueness for heavy-duty vehicles, following a failure to a test done on the road by Contrôle routier Québec.
Targeted vehicules
• All heavy-duty vehicles, more than 3000 kg, running on diesel or biodiesel fuel.
What is the program ?
The heavy-duty vehicles inspection and maintenance program, started on June 1st 2006, as for goal to clear Quebec air, particularly in urban environment. This program leans on the regulations of environmental standards applicable to heavy-duty vehicles. Those standards concern devices and systems made to prevent contaminated emissions and to control polluting emissions.
What are the benefits
• Improving air quality;
• Positive impact on public health;
• Energy savings;
• Encouraging preventive maintenance;
• Helps to detect bad driving habits.
For heavy-duty vehicles, the federal government imposes emissions standards on all new vehicles. Therefore, when in use, those motors can produce emissions higher than originally set. In this way, defective motors can produce excessive quantities of particles or certain gaz. This can result from inadequate maintenance, modification of motor components or bad driving habits.
